FUN Programming

FUNdamentals (FUN1, FUN2, FUN3)

The FUNdamentals program is designed by Ringette Canada and supported by Ringette Ontario to give children under the age of 10 the best possible start in ringette. The focus is on fun, friendships, and fundamental skill development in a safe, welcoming environment. Children are grouped by developmental stage rather than strictly based on age, so they can progress when they are ready, which helps to build confidence on the ice every step of the way.

Program Highlights

  • Ringette experience tailored to age and skill level

  • Emphasis on fun, inclusion, and fundamental skill development

  • Adapted games (cross-ice, small-area, small nets) that encourage maximum participation

  • Progression through divisions based on skill readiness

  • More opportunities for touches, passes, shots, and teamwork

Children’s Ringette Divisions

FUN1

  • For children new to skating or new to ringette who are still learning the basics

  • Focus on learning to skate, building balance, and understanding simple game play

  • Played cross-ice to keep the game fast and fun with lots of ring touches

FUN2

  • For children who have some skating skills and are ready to learn more about the rules of ringette

  • Continued emphasis on skill-building with longer strides, passing, and teamwork

  • Played as Mini Ringette with adapted 3-on-3 or 4-on-4 game formats

FUN3 (U10)

  • For children who have developed the physical, cognitive, and social readiness for more structured play

  • Introduction to full ice surface ringette play

  • Ideal bridge between FUN divisions and upper levels of ringette

Why FUNdamentals?

FUN programming ensures that children are learning in a way that fits their stage of development. Smaller teams, shorter shifts, and scaled-down playing surfaces help players stay active and engaged — and most importantly, have fun while learning the game of ringette.

This approach supports long-term athlete development, helping kids build confidence, physical literacy, and a lifelong love of sport.

Parent Responsibilities

  • You are to remain at the arena the entire time.

  • No kids are to be dropped off and left without parental supervision. Falls happen unexpectedly and care and comfort may be required from you. Bathroom breaks are also your responsibility to maneuver.

  • Arrive early to allow for adequate dressing time to be ready to get on the ice on time.

The success of our programming relies on parents, like you! Parent volunteering is vital to the success of our program. The following areas of assistance include:

  • Coaching

  • On-ice assistance

  • Opening & closing rink door

  • Helping kids get dressed or tie skates
