Youth Programs (U12-U19)

Youth programming begins at the U12 division, where players are introduced to an advanced level of play. At this level, associations conduct player evaluations to group athletes by skill level (e.g., U12A or U12B). This ensures that players receive the right mix of challenge and development opportunities, while competing both within the region and across the province.
What to Expect
Our U12-U19 programs include:
- Games against other teams of similar skill level
- Practices focused on skill development and team systems
- Additional training opportunities, such as power skating, dryland training, or skills clinics
- Tournaments: typically 3-5 per season, including both local and out-of-town tournaments
- The chance to compete in year-end Regional or Provincial Championships
A and AA Programs
A and AA level teams are formed through a try-out process. These programs require a higher level of commitment, as athletes receive more ice time, participate in 4-6 tournaments per season, and may take part in additional training such as dryland or strength and conditioning.
- AA teams may be formed at the U14, U16, and U19 levels.
- These are representative teams, bringing together elite athletes from across multiple associations in the Northeast.
- A teams may be formed at the U12, U14, U16, and U19 levels.
- These are representative teams, bringing together skilled athletes from across the Greater Sudbury area.
- Players and families should expect additional costs for development opportunities, extra ice time, fitness training, dryland training, tournaments, and other team expenses.
B and C Programs
B and C level teams provide a competitive, fun environment for players with prior skating experience who may not wish to pursue the A or AA stream.
- Sort-outs are held based on interest and ensuring all players have a place to play at the appropriate skill level.
- Teams focus on skill development, teamwork, and enjoyment of the game.
- Local travel is required for away games to nearby associations.
- Teams typically participate in approximately 3 tournaments per season.
